Animal testing free!

“Are your products tested on animals?” A question we get regularly. Of course our answer to this is NO. All our products are not tested on animals. And we are very proud of that! We are happy to give you some more information about why we do not claim this on our packaging.

Animal testing on products and ingredients is banned throughout Europe
In the Netherlands, cosmetics have not been tested on animals for a long time. Since 1997, there has been a ban on animal testing for both the development, safety and efficacy of cosmetic products. That ban has been in effect for the whole of Europe since 2004. Nice right?!

In 2009, the European Cosmetics Regulation (1223/2009/EC) stipulated that no cosmetics may be sold on the European market if their safety or ingredients have been tested on animals. Not only a testing ban, but also a trade ban.

Animal testing is mandatory in China
Unfortunately, this legislation differs in other parts of the world. Animal testing is still mandatory in China (although there is slowly some movement in this area). Every product that is put on the market there must first be tested on animals by the government. This safety requirement also applies to foreign products sold in China. Some cosmetic brands that sell in both Europe and China are actually not as ‘cruelty-free’ as you think…

PETA cruelty free
As you would expect from us, we are listed by PETA cruelty free as a company that does not test on animals. Yay! Yay!

Every cosmetic ingredient has been tested for safety in the past. No ingredient is actually completely ‘animal testing free’. Unfortunately, we cannot change the past, but that is why we focus on a future without animal testing!
